Reviewing "Mastering AWS Security" by Laurent Mathieu

Excellent book, great for all cloud professionals who are looking to deep dive into AWS Security.

When I became an author, it was a pleasure to see my name on the cover of a book, but it also reinforced my respect and appreciation of other authors and how much effort they put into their works. When I was asked to review the book Mastering AWS Security, I did so knowing the great effort the author had put into it and knowing the challenges of security, especially in a cloud environment with critical infrastructure. But Laurent Mathieu’s book serves excellently in this regard.

I decided to read through the book with an open mind: the mind of someone who hadn’t ever seriously considered the topic of security in AWS or was a novice in the field and wanted to improve themselves in this regard. And I must say, for someone like that, this book is a perfect escalation from the most basic of security concepts into advanced security strategies with explanations on how to implement them included.

The book itself is divided into three sections, the first of which deals with AWS’ security model, security services and other basic concepts, setting the foundation for security-based learning. The next section deals with deploying actual workloads in AWS that follow these practices and the book has quite a few examples on how to implement everything you learn in a pragmatic approach that can be copied over into any workload the reader may be thinking about implementing. The final section deals with the maintenance, update and automation of security practices and features which provides faster threat response times and easier threat detection. An excellent layout with great content.

I whole-heartedly recommend this book. It is an excellent read for people who want to have a guide for their AWS Security journey. I believe that if you really want to learn about security in AWS, this book would be a good investment.
